Takeshi Fugii, assistant director for fitness and wellness, led a free yoga class Friday, Feb. 29, in room 205 at the University Center.
The class was held from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. It is convenient for participants because it is "free without joining a gym," Fugii said.
The classes are not just for students, Fugii said, faculty can attend as well.
"I did it all last semester," Debon Ller, environmental science major said, "It will keep you sane."
Lier recruited her friend Brittany Pagano, an English education major to join her at the noon yoga sessions. Yoga "helps with stress from college," Pagano said, "It's a stress reducer, something you need in college."
Yoga helps with stress relief, relaxation and awareness of the body internally, Fugii said.
"With yoga, you are aware of your body, you feel it without visual assistance."
Yoga works with kinesthetic, he said, being aware of your body internally as you move your muscles and joints.
Yoga is more than just flexibility; it is also a strengthening exercise. When a pose is held, it is flexed, Fugii said, strengthening the muscle.
The free lessons are part of the Lunch Express program sponsored by Recreation Services.
Fugii's next free lesson is March 7, same place and time.
Other free activities are available, such as walking and water workouts. Log on to www4.semoedu/recsports and look for the Lunch Express link for more information.
