"Killshot": Hollywood in Cape Girardeau

Between Jan. 9 and 14, around 100 Cape Girardeau natives and 25 Southeast students had a one-of-a-kind opportunity to participate in the shooting of a major Hollywood film. "Killshot," a drama-thriller starring Diane Lane, Thomas Jane and Johnny Knoxville and directed by John Madden, was shot on location in Cape Girardeau and southern Illinois, with Southeast students working behind the scenes as interns, extras, runners and stand-ins for the actors.

Kent Library gets a facelift

The interior of Kent Library can at times be a dreary place. Outside, beneath the oppressive gazes of Whitman and Thoreau, kids play hackysack and skateboarders grind the steps while theatre jocks eat lunch atop the fountain watching freshman girls float by.

First-Day Spring Semester Enrollment up 5.5 Percent

Total enrollment at Southeast is up 5.5 percent over this time last year, according to a preliminary unofficial report compiled at the beginning of the first full day of the spring 2006 semester. Total combined undergraduate and graduate student headcount stands at 8,882, up from 8,416 at this time a year ago.

River Campus expected to cost $35.6 Million

St. Vincent's Seminary will soon be home for Southeast's School of Visual and Performing Arts. The land that the seminary sits on was acquired by the university in 1998 through donated funds, with the understanding that the property would be used for educational purposes.

Student Government

If graduation is in your imminent future, you don't have to worry about suffering the same fate as past alumni - thanks to Student Government. At their first meeting of the semester, one of the issues Student Government looked at was the expiration of a student's Southeast key e-mail address, just three days after a student graduates, causing serious problems for students who were communicating with potential employers through this channel.

What is the tolerance rate at Southeast?
The Civil Rights Act, which guaranteed basic civil rights for all Americans regardless of race, was passed over 40 years ago, today, different organizations across the United States are working to end racial discrimination on college campuses. This year, a non-profit organization called the Campus Truth Foundation will be introducing a system for ranking tolerance on college campuses all over the United States.
