Southeast President Ken Dobbins addressed Southeast faculty and staff Tue. March 9 at Academic Hall regarding the recent-and expectedly long-lasting-budget issues.

During the meeting, which roughly 50 faculty and staff attended, Dobbins said, "We are here because [the budget] is a major, major undertaking… we need to manage the budget for both [fiscal year] 2011 and [fiscal year] 2012 at the same time.

Five years after its conception, the site for Southeast's planned Technology Village off I-55 remains empty save for a few road signs promoting its birth. Nevertheless, university officials insist the project isn't dead but merely dormant, awaiting the proper time to return to life.

Barely month after the Theatre Department's last performance, the Theatre Department is already hard at work, bringing the comedy "Rumors" to Southeast.

The play is a sex-farce, though it has little to do with sex. The story begins with a man accidentally shooting himself in the ear, and his wife falling down a flight of stairs.

Remakes and sequels are two staples of the film industry. They are usually big moneymakers, and sometimes are better than the original. Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" is both a remake and a sequel, if you can believe it. It probably made a lot of money as well, because all the shows were sold out except for one.

Sunday marked the 82nd Academy Awards. The ceremony opened with Neil Patrick Harris's rousing musical number. Then co-hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin took the stage. Oscar host alum Martin and new-timer Baldwin were successful in bringing the laughs.

One major change in this year's show was the expansion of the Best Picture category from five shows to ten.

Wun "The Shot" Versher was recruited to the Harlem Globetrotters out of Arizona State University in 1993.
He used to "watch [the Globetrotters] on the ABC Wild World of Sports and Scooby Doo," growing up.

During college it "wasn't on my radar to be a Globetrotter… I thought it was just an elite team.
Rikara Turner, a senior gymnast at Southeast, reminisced about her youth; her time spent jumping on the trampolines during open gym before she started training for the sport.

With Spring break only two days away, students are stuffing suitcases with swimsuits and other beach attire to relax in the sand and drink mojitos. Last Call, a Greek bar on Broadway is shutting its doors during the week because most of their clientele will be in Panama City, Fla.

So, Spring Break is almost here. Instead of following my usual tradition and working the whole week, this year I will be spending three blissful days on Panama City beach. I hope they are blissful anyway. Judging from the looks of shock and surprise on the faces of everyone I have told about the trip, Panama City, the spring break capital of the world, is not really the place to be for spring break anymore.
